An integral part of the city’s collective memory. Cantonese opera is the shared soundtrack to the lives of everyone raised in Hong Kong. During the golden era, from the 1940s to the 1960s, charismatic actors of stage and screen flaunted their talent to ardent audiences and unprecedented acclaim. Based on anecdotes from some of the city’s most renowned performers of that time, The Golden Age of Cantonese Opera combines stories, history and legend to offer a fascinating portrait of Hong Kong’s best-loved Cantonese opera names.
