Successful Performance! Centaline Club invites members to enjoy the Experimental Solo Cantonese Opera: The Asura Judgement
Centaline Club has brought an Experimental Solo Cantonese Opera: The Asura Judgement to members the other day. The performance was presented by the Cantonese opera legend Mr. Law Ka-ying, which was inspired by Japanese director Akira Kurosawa’s classic film Rashomon, and written, directed and performed by Law himself. It is about a tale of murder retold by a thief, a monk, a woodcutter and his wife in the late Ming Dynasty China. The production addresses issues of humanity, morality and trust from a variety of angles. Law will adopt multiple roles, switching back and forth in time and space to recount “the truth” of a fatal crime from the subjective perspectives of a series of protagonists.
Mr. Law gave amazing performance of acting 6 characters including women, husband, the monk and the thief. The performance had blended multimedia technologies and the contemporary theatre techniques, in the form of one-man show which is the first of the kind in the history of Hong Kong Cantonese opera.
Mr. Addy Wong - Centaline Club’s Founding Chairman, Ms. Naomi Chung - Head of Xiqu, Performing Arts, West Kowloon Cultural and Ms. Wai Chun-fai - famous Cantonese Opera actress, have shown up for support and took photos to commemorate the success of the performance.
