Centaline Club is committed to bringing diverse arts and cultural events to our members, and this time we have once again presented a different experience to members. Dance performance conveys a story and a feeling through infectious movements, rhythms and emotional expressions. If the elements of Calligraphy, Martial Arts & Technology are added on top of Dance Rhyme, how wonderful would such an innovative cross-boundary joint art performance be! On 11th and 12th October, Centaline Club invited members to enjoy a total of three performances of a Grand Dance Poem of Calligraphy named “After Snowfall” performed by Hong Kong Dance Company. On the opening night, Mr. Addy Wong, Chairman and CEO - Asia Pacific of Centaline Property and Founding Chairman of Centaline Club, and the committee of Centaline Club, came to the venue to share with the members this new dance initiative that transcends time and space.
Promoting Chinese Culture Through Calligraphy
The highest standard of Chinese traditional art and culture is to attain harmony between heaven and earth, blending forces and illuminating past and present. As “After Snowfall” begins, the stage transforms from a folded white paper to a snowy landscape, contrasting with the black costumes, showcasing the dancers' skills. Special features include a water installation and pool, resembling an inkstone, where dancers, trained in martial arts for seven years, immerse their long sleeves and bodies in water, using dance to trace calligraphy. Dance embodies grace, martial arts embody strength, creating a harmonious balance of strength and grace. This performance by Hong Kong Dance Company promotes Chinese culture by expressing the beauty of calligraphy through dance.
Dance Rhyme, Calligraphy, Martial Arts, Technology — A Cross-Boundary Collaboration
This performance, directed by Artistic Director Yang Yuntao, incorporated tai chi elements, Western string music, and multimedia art technology, creatively transforming traditional Chinese culture. Violin soloist Ms. Yao Jue’s energetic performance complemented the dancers’ powerful movements, showcasing the fusion of Eastern calligraphy and Western string music, breaking cultural boundaries and resonating with audiences. New media artist Mr. Chris Cheung explained that “After Snowfall” draws inspiration from Wang Xizhi’s letters, expressing his spirit sincerely. By combining body interaction and brainwave data, calligraphy is presented more deeply. This collaboration allows audiences to appreciate traditional Eastern aesthetics from a new perspective. The program has been selected as one of the “Expo Programmes” at the inaugural Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo, offering art lovers a new perspective on Chinese ink art and dance.
This time, Centaline Club brought our members travelling through the past and present, between the East and the West. It is believed that all members deeply felt the amaze of cross-border art co-operation. In the future, Centaline Club will continue to explore more creative and in-depth cultural and arts activities, and let our members to experience more wonderful moments.
