Recently, Centaline Club proudly sponsored the Hong Kong Dance Company’s collaboration with renowned comic artist Ma Wing-shing in the classic martial arts dance drama STORM CLOUDS, rekindling collective memories for countless fans of Hong Kong comics. The performance was staged at the Xiqu Centre, where the Founding Chairman of Centaline Club, Addy Wong, committee members, and 2025 New Gold Members were invited to enjoy this spectacular fusion of iconic Hong Kong comics and dance artistry. Together, they immersed themselves in the unique culture and passionate spirit of Hong Kong martial arts comics.
A Timeless Classic Reimagined for the Stage
As a representative of Hong Kong comic classics, STORM CLOUDS has remained beloved by audiences for 35 years. This marks the third time the Hong Kong Dance Company has brought the story to the stage, reflecting the enduring passion and support from fans. As part of the 2025 special project, the Hong Kong Dance Company once again joined forces with Ma Wing-shing and teamed up with leading local technology and art professionals. Earlier in January, they launched a large-scale cross-media project, "Dancing in STORM CLOUDS", which included a series of four outdoor 3D projection dance performances, a Collection & Commemorative Exhibition, and an Interactive Time Travel Experience, reviving the collective memories of comic fans while igniting their excitement for the upcoming show.
The highly anticipated dance drama finally premiered in mid-February, with additional performances added due to overwhelming demand. Centaline Gold Members were given priority invitations to this unique and innovative show. The 2025 version of STORM CLOUDS pushes creative boundaries with cutting-edge multimedia projection, lighting effects, electronic music, and a water-stage design that vividly brings the fantasy of the comic to life. The production delivers an upgraded sensory experience, paying homage to and reinventing the classic martial arts narrative.
Emotion and Action Brought to Life on a Water Stage
Lawrence Cheng, who starred in the STORM CLOUDS movie, was specially invited as the storyteller. Cheng’s familiar and endearing voice adds a rich narrative layer to the performance, evoking nostalgia for the classic film while drawing the audience deeper into the martial arts world of STORM CLOUDS. The unique water-stage design amplifies the drama, vividly expressing the characters’ emotions and struggles.
In one scene, Bo Ging-wan and Hung Chi’s romantic pas de deux splashes water across the stage, creating a tender and passionate atmosphere. Meanwhile, the climactic battle between Bo Ging-wan and Lip Fung sees their fierce swordplay and martial arts moves sending icy sprays of water into the air, heightening the dramatic tension. The intense clash of Cloud-Splitting Palm and Kick of the God of the Wind generates waves of water, adding a dynamic and visceral energy to the performance. The unrivaled charisma and grandeur of the two heroes captivated the audience, showcasing the unique allure of Hong Kong martial arts comics.
